Duluth, Minn. --- Minnesota State women's hockey lost 4-0 to Minnesota Duluth in its Western Collegiate Hockey Association opener on Friday night at Amsoil Arena. 
The Mavericks (2-1-0, 0-1-0 WCHA), who came into the game 7-of-7 on the penalty kill this season, surrendered three power play goals to the Bulldogs (2-0-1, 1-0-0 WCHA).
Minnesota Duluth took a 1-0 lead on a power play goal by Jessica Healy at 6:07 in the first period. The Mavericks were outshot 9-7 in the period -- 31-22 for the game.
Minnesota State played Minnesota Duluth even in the second period -- each team had 10 shots on goal -- with neither team scoring. Senior 
Brianna Quade (1-1-0), who stopped 19-of-20 shots through the first two periods, made 27 saves in the game.  
The Bulldogs pulled away in the third period -- scoring three times on eight shots. Two of their third period goals came with a man advantage. Minnesota Duluth's third period goals were scored by Katherine McGovern (2:52), Katerina Mrazova (5:19) and Jalyn Elmes (6:27). 
The Mavericks had five shots on goal in the third, but were turned away by The Bulldogs'  Maddie Rooney (2-0-1), who made 22 saves in the game. 
Minnesota State returns to action for the conclusion of their two-game series at Minnesota Duluth on Saturday at 4:07 p.m.
