St. Cloud State Downs Minnesota State in Overtime Saturday

Box Score MANKATO,  Minn.  ---    Minnesota State could not maintain a pair of one-goal leads, eventually falling to St. Cloud State 4-3 in overtime in Western Collegiate Hockey Association action Saturday in Mankato.

Sophomore forward Amanda Conway (Naperville, Ill.) one-timed a pass from Katie Johnson (Anoka, Minn.) past Katie Fitzgerald to give the Mavericks a 1-0 lead at 4:27 of the opening stanza. The goal by Conway, her fifth of the season, marked the eighth time this year that the Mavericks had scored the first goal of the game.  The Huskies responded at 9:23 on a rebound chance that Vanessa Spataro jumped on from in front of the Maverick net.  It became a 2-1 Minnesota State lead at 13:23 when sophomore center Hannah Davidson (Kincardine, Ont.) walked out from behind the St. Cloud State net before stuffing it in for her team-leading sixth goal of the season. The Huskies came right back, with Hanna Potrykus one-timing a shot past Brianna Quade (Newcastle, Ont.) at 14:26.

Alyssa Erickson's goal at 17:53 of the second gave the Huskies their first lead of the contest, but the Mavericks tied it up at the 19:31 mark of the third period with sophomore defenseman Lena Duesterhoeft (Munich, Germany) shot from the point finding the back of the net to send the game into overtime. The goal is the second of the season for Duesterhoeft.

SCSU's Molly Illikainen closed out scoring in the game when her wrister found the far side of the net with 32 seconds left in the extra session

St. Cloud State outshot the Mavericks by a 33-29 margin in the contest. Junior netminder Brianna Quade, who was credited with 29 saves, stands 3-16-2 overall on the season with today's result.

Minnesota State, which stands 3-17-2 overall and owns a 0-15-1 WCHA mark, is at Minnesota next Friday and Saturday for a pair of WCHA games in its next action.
