MANKATO, Minn. --- The Mavericks success from last week carried over as they captured five first-place finished at the MSU Multi & Open.
The 60-meter dash field saw some of the fastest times ever recorded at Myers Field house. Former Maverick
Emmanuel Matadi broke the facility record from 2008 with a blistering time of 6.58. Leading the Mavericks was senior
Kyran Stewart (Camilla, GA) with a time of 6.81 which is the eighth fastest time in division II so far this season. Coming in fourth with another solid time was fellow senior
Richard Wilhite, Jr. (Minneapolis, Minn.) (6.90).
Jake Gourley (Eagan, Minn.) Â rounded out the top five in fifth.
In a very competitive 200-meters, freshman
Reid Diamond (San Antonio, Tex.) led the Mavericks in second-place posting a time 22.58. Rounding out the top ten were
Ryan Immkeer (Brandon. S.D.) in fourth and
John Schuster (Wells, Minn.) in sixth. The 400-meters also featured a couple top-ten finishes for MSU with
Schuster taking home third with a time of 49.80. Teammate
Javontee Brice(Bradenton, Fla.) followed in fourth with a posting of 49.88.
The Mavericks placed four runners in the top five in the 1000-meter run. They were led by
Austin Pasch(Tomah, Wis) with a run of 2:30.43 followed by
Brendan Gessner (Lino Lakes, Minn.) in third (2:33.42),
Michael Hoff (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) (2:33.85), and
Brennan Holman (Sacramento, Calf.) rounding out the top five in 2:33.95.
The 60-meter hurdle event saw yet another MSU first-place crown with
Myles Hunter (Conyers, Ga.) finishing in 7.93 during the finals. Teammate
Ben Ojika(New Brighton, Minn.) followed in third-place (8.40).
On the field side of the day, junior
Frank Veldman (Eagan, Minn.) finished the high jump in first with a leap of 6'10.75". This is his top mark of the season. Also placing first was
Alex Campbell (Ellsworth, Wisc.) in the triple jump with a leap of 45'11.75''.
Wrapping up the field events,
Bryan Caffin (Hudson, Wis.) finished the shot put in first-place with a toss of 51'04.55", which is also his top mark of the season.
The events on Saturday also featured the conclusion of the men's heptathlon. Freshman
Anyah Nutter (San Diego, Cal.) finished his two-day action in fourth-place with 4252 points. Former Maverick
Nathan Hancock finished first with 4799 points.
