LINCOLN, Neb. --- The MSU women's track and field team saw participants travel to two different Big Ten Conference hosts.
At the Holiday Inn Invitational hosted by the University of Nebraska,
Altoniece Williams established a school record in the 60-meter hurdles race in a blistering time of 8.57 which also provisionally qualifies her for nationals.
Brooke Foreman also made the finals and placed eighth (8.82). In the 60-meter dash
Gabi Gaines finished in ninth place with a time of 7.88.
The 200-meter dash saw
Afure Adah take home fourth place with a run of 25.19. Gaines was 16
th in 26.01. She was followed closely by
Karlona Gregory (26.15) in 18
th.
In the field events,
Ariel Thomas would find herself in the top-ten coming in ninth in the triple jump with a leap of 36'5".
Heading northeast, the Minnesota Open also saw its fair share of success for the Mavericks.
In the 60-meter dash, freshman
Autumn Santos found herself in third place with a time of 7.95. In the 200-meter dash,
Mackenzie Beals took fifth place (25.99) and
Amelia Kjos came in seventh (26.39).
MSU had a strong showing in the 800-meter run taking the top two spots.
Haley Kruger took first place with a time of 2:16.67.
Megan Allen was a close second (2:17.53). The Mavericks werepaced by
Jessika Dieringer (1:01.07) in the 400m with her fourth-place finish. In the mile run
Megan Serratore placed fifth in 5:17.55.
The 3,000-meter run had
Samantha Soupir finish in eighth place with a time of 10:46.65. The Mavericks 4x400 relay team, consisting of Beals, Kjos,
Sophie Simonson and
Stacy Smidt, finished in second place with a time of 4:01.71.
The field events were led by pole vaulter
Faryn Wirkus taking home first place with a fault of 12'-02''. Teammates
Grady Keding (11'-3'') and
Tessa Voss (9'-9.25'') placed fourth and tenth, respectively. In the high jump
Eden Rodgers jumped her way to sixth place with a height of 5'02.50''.
Representing the Mavericks in the shot put was
Emma Edelen,
Sarah Knutson and
Sarah Kalkhoff who finished sixth, eighth and ninth respectively.
Morgan Stampley placed ninth in the weight throw (52'11.50'').
Finishing up the day,
Allison Calkins came in sixth in the triple jump with a lunge of 33'10".
The Mavericks return to action this coming weekend as they are set to host the MSU Open and Multi in Mankato, Minn.
