MSU in Split Squad Action

LINCOLN, Neb. --- The Mavericks split up their squad this weekend sending participants to both the Holiday Inn Invitational in Lincoln Neb. and the Minnesota Open in Minneapolis, Minn.  At both locations, the Mavericks saw success rule the day.

In Lincoln, MSU had a strong showing in the 60-meter dash with Kryan Stewart placing third in a time of 6.85. He was followed closely by Jake Gourley in fifth (6.87).  Both times qualify provisionally for nationals. Myles Hunter hurdled his way to third place in the 60-meter hurdles (7.92).

The 200-meter dash also had Mavericks scattered throughout the leaderboard with Richard Wilhite leading the way with a third place finish (21.82). Coming in fifth was Gourley with a time of 22.07.

Other notables at the Holiday Inn Invitational include Jeff DeCock finishing fifth in the high jump at 6'8.25". Frank Feldman had the same mark while finishing sixth. Michael Sandle paced the Mavs in the triple jump by leaping 48'11.75'' and placing third. This jump qualifies him provisionally for nationals. Alex Campbell placed seventh for the Mavericks.

Up in Minneapolis, the Mavericks day would continue to impress.  MSU had three athletes make the final in the 60-meter dash. Emmanuel Dixon led the way for the Mavs with a fifth place finish (7.07). He was followed by Geno Bullard in sixth (7.13) and Reid Diamond in eighth (7.14). In the 60-meter hurdles Benjamin Ojika and Anyah Nutter finished second and seventh, respectively with Ojika leading the charge at 8.42. The 200-meter dash had Ryan Immeker take second place in a time of 22.58. Diamond placed fourth (23.07).

Following suit in the 400-meters, Javontee Brice finished in first-place at 50.04. Joe Williams and Dixon rounded out the top ten in fourth and sixth.  Coming in second in the 800-meter run was Victor Bowen in 1:57.83. He was followed by Pasch in fourth (1:59.31).

The mile could have basically been called the Maverick Mile since MSU occupied five of the top-ten spots. Leading the charge in first place was Austin Pasch in 4:25.68. He was followed by Brennen Holeman (sixth), Michael Hoff (seventh), Brenden Gessner (eighth), and Derek Cruz (tenth).
Rounding out the track events, the 3000-meter run saw Steven Erredge place fifth with a run of 9:14.29.

On the field side, Benjamin Ojika took home his first number one spot of the season in the high jump at 6'8".  He was followed by Jack Curtis (6'4.75'') coming in fourth and Anyah Nutter (6'2.75'') in sixth.
The Mavericks were led by Bryan Caffin and Jayme LaPlante in the shot put. Caffin, finished fourth with a throw of 50-00.50. LaPlante was fifth with a throw of 49-3.75. In the weight throw Caffin placed fifth (55-02.25).

The Mavericks will return to action next weekend as they host the MSU Open and Multi within Myers Field House in Mankato, Minn.
