Mankato, Minn. --- Former Minnesota State offensive lineman
Chris Reed has been signed to the National Football League practice squad of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Reed, who played for Minnesota State from 2011-14, was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by Jacksonville this past summer and went through training camp with the organization before being waived as the Jaguars got down to the 53-man roster limit Saturday.
During his four seasons at MSU, the offensive line blocked for four of the six highest scoring teams in program history, including the 2014 season in which the Mavericks scored a single-season record 600 points. The 2014 season also saw the Mavericks establish single-season records in rushing yards (3,625), rushing attempts (699), total offense (6,704) and all-purpose yards (8,103).
For his efforts during his senior season, the Omaha, Neb., native garnered NSIC South Division All-Conference First Team Offense Team honors, to go along with D2Football.com First Team All-American honors. Reed was also one of two Mavericks to receive the Minnesota State Male Athletics Medal of Honor, which is awarded to the top senior male athlete. Along with his accolades on the gridiron, Reed was also a two-time NCAA champion in the shot put event and 11-time All-American for the MSU men's track and field team. He currently holds the MSU indoor and outdoor records in the shot put, to go along with the indoor record in the weight thrown and the outdoor record in the hammer throw.
