Box Score MANKATO, Minn. --- The fourth-rated Minnesota State soccer team won its first Northern Sun match of the season in St. Paul by shuttingout the Golden Bears of Concordia-St. Paul 3-0 Thursday.
Though the score didn't show it in the first half, the No. 4 Mavericks came out of the gates with intensity Thursday night at Sea Foam Stadium., Minnesota State took the lead and scored the lone goal of the frame when the ball was shot into the box and two consecutive headed passes came from junior forward
Dana Savino (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) and senior forward
Korey Kronforst (Cary, Ill.), landed on the foot of senior forward
Jessica Bowe (Anoka, Minn.)., In front of the box, Bowe wedged the ball over Golden Bear goalkeeper Emma Gartner for her first marker of the season at 13:38 of the period. At the end of the first half, the fourth rated Mavericks owned a 14-1 shot advantage with eight of them landing on net.
Senior goal keeper
Lauren Hoeppner (Lakeville, Minn.) tallied one save throughout the half.
MSU stayed strong continuing into the second half of action scoring in the 62nd minute. The goal was set up on an impressive cross from Kronforst to junior forward
Kiana Nickel (Wayzata, Minn.) who headed the ball into the back of the net, scoring her third goal of the season. On a free kick just nine minutes later by senior defenseman
Emily Erickson (Woodbury, Minn.). Kronforst booted the ball off of the cross bar landing in front of the net for freshman forward
Maddy Burandt (Mankato, Minn.) to finish off the play for the first goal of her career.
Minnesota State finished the game with a total of 24 shots and two shots on goal while the Golden Bears were held to 11 total shots and two shots on goal.
Hoeppner finished out the game with two saves and extends her season record to 3-0.
Minnesota State will continue on Sunday for a tilt against No. 12 Grand Valley State in Allendale, Mich., slated for 1 p.m.
