Mavericks Coast to Fourth-Straight Outdoor Title

Sioux Falls, S.D. --- The Minnesota State men's track and field team displayed their dominance this afternoon as they finished with a convincing 202.5 points capturing the NSIC Outdoor Championships.

Augustana College finished second with 92 points.  

The tone was set through sophomore
Myles Hunter (Conyers, Ga.).  Hunter took down the MSU school-record in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.8 finishing first.  Slater Powell (Corvallis, Mont.), Ben Ojika (New Brighton, Minn.) and Nathan Hancock (Independence, Mo.) finished second, third and fifth, all respectively.  Powell also finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles setting a new personal-record at 53.99.  

Emmanuel Matadi (St. Paul, Minn.) captured the 100-meter dash title with a final time of 10.45.  Kyran Stewart (Camilla, Ga.) came in second at 10.52 and Richard Wilhite, Jr. (Minneapolis, Minn.) followed in fourth.  Matadi took the 200-meter title as well with a final time of 20.84.  Stewart, Wilhite and Anthony Gustafson (Faribault, Minn.) finished second, fourth and fifth to their respective student-athlete.  Hancock took seventh in the 400-meters at 49.15.  

Victor Bowen (Milwaukee, Wis.) took home second in the 800-meters with a time of 1:54.79.  Matthew Stocker (Salon, Iowa) followed right behind in the third at 1:54.82.  Austin O'Brien (Bettendorf, Iowa) and Brennan Holman (Sacramento, Calif.) went third and sixth in the 1500-meters with O'Brien in front at 3:56.6.  Austin Pasch (Tomah, Wis) crossed the line in the 3000-meter steeplechase in fifth with a time of 9:26.52.

Geno Bullard (Nassau, Bahamas), Stewart, Wilhite and Gustafson guided the 4x100 relay to a first-place title with a final time of 41.08.

David Pearcill (Eagan, Minn.) guided a pack of five Mavericks in the triple jump taking the title with a leap of 49'4.25".  Khalil Jor'dan (Eagan, Minn.) finished in second at 48'10.75".  Alex Campbell (Ellsworth, Wis.), Ojika and Frank Veldman (Eagan, Minn.) also found themselves in the top-eight.

Freshman
Jayme LaPlante (Chatfield, Minn.) sat in fifth in the shot put after a toss of 52'2.5".  Samuel McKay (Rhinelander, Wis.) rounded out the competition with a fifth-place performance in the javelin at 185'1".

Following the championships, the Mavericks set their attention to the NCAA Outdoor Championships beginning May 21st, in Allendale, Mich.
