Balanced Effort Guides Mavericks at Gustavus

St. Peter, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's track and field team made the short journey north to the campus of Gustavus Adolphus College to compete in the Lee Krough Invitational.

Junior
Mackenzie Beals (Marshalltown, Iowa) set the tone early taking first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.28.  McKenna Krause (Chanhassen, Minn.) followed in third at 12.58.  Beals would strike again in the 200-meters leading a trio of Mavericks at the top with a final time of 25.28.  Kimmy Wreh (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) and Bonnie Pickford (Wever, Iowa) went second and third, respectively.  Wreh grabbed a first-place finish of her own in the 400-meters with a time of 1:01.15.  Amelia Kjos (River Falls, Wis.) finished second at 1:01.42.

In the 800-meters
Maddi Sjelin (St. Michael, Minn.) took home second-place with a final time of 2:15.83.  Megan Allen (Grand Rapids, Minn.) followed right behind in third.  Halee Peterson (Cloquet, Minn.) notched another first-place victory in the 1500-meters with her final time of 4:53.49.  Erin Baker (Grand Rapids, Minn.) finished third in the 5000-meters with a time of 18:46.84.

Brooke Foreman (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) continues to impress in the hurdle events finishing the 100s in first-place with a time of 14.42.  Kellie Wong (Ankeny, Iowa) followed right behind in third. Samantha Soupir (Omaha, Neb.) rounded out the running events finishing second in the 3000-meter steeplechase.

The field events saw the successes of the day continue, especially in the pole vault event.  Senior
Bryanna Sudman (Eden Prairie, Minn) finished first with a top mark of 12'3.5".  This ties her for fourth in the nation across Division II.  Faryn Wirkus (Edgar, Wis.) and Nicole Larson (Milwaukee, Wis.) followed in second and third, respectively.  Brianna Ziolkowski (Hatley, Wis.) finished second in the high jump with a leap of 5'3".  Junior Kayla Lindell (Cold Spring, Minn.) followed in third at 5'1".  

Senior
Anna Veroeven (North Mankato, Minn.) finished the day with a pair of first-place crowns to her name.  She jumped 37'6" in the triple jump and followed that with a 115'7" toss in the javelin.  Emma Edelen (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) saw her name in the top three in three separate events when the day wrapped up.  She finished third in the shot put with a toss of 38'7.75", second in the discus at 126'7" and third once again in the hammer throw at 132'5".

Next up for the Mavericks will consist of two separate meets.  One in Walnut, Calif. at the Mt. Sac Relays and the other in Northfield, Minn. for the Manitou Classic.
