No. 2 Minnesota State Trounces Gustavus Adolphus, 17-3

MANKATO, Minn. --- The second-rated Minnesota State Baseball team did all its damage in four innings as they defeated Gustavus Adolphus College, 17-3, at the MSU Baseball Complex to improve to 15-2 on the year.

MSU wasted no time putting runs up on the board, scoring three runs in the first inning. Redshirt freshman Dylan Dresel singled to right to bring home senior's Nolan Johnson and Kevin Kramer. Later in the inning, junior Taylor Branstad scored on a wild pitch to put the Mavericks up 3-0.

After a single by Dresel and a double by senior Connor McCallum, redshirt freshman Josh Wenzel hit an RBI single in the fourth inning. Wenzel and redshirt freshman Brennan Gilyard later scored in the inning to push the lead to 7-0.

The Gusties tallied two runs in the top of the fourth, but in the bottom of the inning the Mavericks put together a two out rally using two GAC errors and four hits. In the eighth inning the Purple and Gold put up a six spot on the scoreboard. Junior Chase Lonetti and McCallum each singled with the bases loaded to bring home a couple runs. Later in the inning redshirt freshman Luke Waldek double to right field to plate another run.

Freshman Dalton Roach pitched two innings and allowed just one hit while striking out three batters to move to 2-0 on the year. Freshman Christian Howell, junior Tyler Ockuly, sophomore's Lucas Henning, Trevor Patterson and Tyler Frohwirth as well as senior's Nick Veale and Nathan Trelstad each pitched one inning for the Mavericks in relief.

After going 1-2, Kramer extends his hitting streak to eleven games. McCallum finished the day 5-6 with an RBI and three runs while Dresel went 4-6 with two RBI and two runs.

The Mavericks will return to action this weekend when they travel to the University of Minnesota-Duluth for a couple of twinbill's on Friday and Saturday. Both doubleheaders are scheduled to begin at noon and will be played at Wade Stadium.
