No. 4 Mavericks Trample Battlers, 19-4

AUBURNDALE, Fla. ---  Minnesota State's offense exploded on Tuesday afternoon as they scored a season high 19 runs to defeat Alderson Broaddus, 19-4, at the RussMatt Invitational.

Redshirt freshman Dylan Dresel hit his first home run of the season, a two run bomb to left field, to put MSU up 2-0 after one inning of play. In the second inning the Mavericks offense scored five runs after three consecutive singles by senior's Max Waletich and Nolan Johnson as well as junior Taylor Branstad.

The Battlers added two runs of their own in the in the bottom of the third but MSU retaliated with 12 runs in the next three innings. In the bottom of the fourth the Mavericks strung together six hits and scored four runs to increase its lead to 11-2.

In the next inning redshirt freshman Josh Crosby hit a two-run home run, his first of the season, to add on to the lead. Senior Connor McCallum highlighted the top of the sixth inning with an RBI triple as MSU scored six runs to close out the game.

Redshirt freshman Aaron Rozek made his second start of the season allowing just eight hits and two earned runs while striking out seven batters to pick up his first win of the season. Sophomore Trevor Patterson and senior Nathan Trelstad each pitched an inning of relief to close out the game.

Sophomore Eric Peterson went 3-5 with three runs scored while Dresel also went 3-5 with three runs scored and three RBI increasing his hitting streak to six games. Johnson went 2-4 in the win with two RBI and has now hit safely in every game so far this season. McCallum and Branstad both went 2-2 on the afternoon as well.

The Mavericks committed just one error and compiled 21 hits improving their record to 6-1 this season.

Minnesota State returns to action tomorrow morning against Saint Joseph's College at the RussMatt Invitational. The opening pitch is slated for 9 a.m. CST.
