MANKATO, Minn. --- The conference championship season got started on Sunday as Nathan Hancock (Independence, Mo.)and Ben Ojika (New Brighton, Minn.) took part in the heptathlon event.
With three events remaining, Hancock leads the field of 15 with a score of 2,880 points. Sophomore Ojika sits not far behind in third with 2,796 points.
Hancock's day was solid all around. He finished first in the 60-meter dash with a final time of 7.17. Following that, he lunged 21'1.5" in the long jump. His toss of 38'4.75" in the shot put was the second-farthest among the field. He would follow that up with another second-place finish in the high jump, topped only by his teammate.
Ojika's final leap of 6'7" was the top mark in the high jump to go along with a 36'6.75" toss in the shot put. He cruised to a final time in the 60-meter dash of 7.54. Rounding out his day one action, he marked a final long jump attempt at 21'9.5".

The NSIC Multi Championships will wrap up tomorrow with three events remaining for the men's heptathlon. The 60-meter hurdles is schedule to commence at 10 a.m. in Myers Field House.
