Mavericks Pick Up 2-2 Overtime Tie at Northern Michigan Saturday

Marquette, Mich.  --- For the second straight night Minnesota State and Northern Michigan skated to an overtime tie with both teams scoring twice in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game played in Marquette, Mich., Saturday.

Tonight's result came on the heels of Friday's 1-1 draw.

Freshman netminder Jason Pawloski, who started for third consecutive time, made an initial save off of Brock Mashcmeyer's shot, but Northern Michigan's Zach Diamantoni pounced on the rebound in putting the puck into the net at 4:35 of the first period for tonight's first goal.  The Mavericks countered at 5:58 on a goal that came on a shot from the point from freshman defenseman Daniel Brickley.  The goal is the first of Brickley's career.

Northern Michigan took the lead for the second time in the game with a power play marker from John Siemer at 18:27 of the second period.  Siemer tipped Jordan Klimek's shot from the point for his fourth goal of the year.

At 3:08 of the third, senior Dylan Margonari rang a shot off the post before sophomore forward C.J. Franklin struck for his fourth goal of the season to knot the score at 2-2. For Margonari, who missed the first ten games of this season due to injury, it was his first career point and freshman forward Chandler Madry, who played in his first game as a collegian tonight, also was credited with an assist for his first point as a Maverick.

Franklin's goal forced a scoreless overtime.

The Mavericks went zero-for-four in power play chances on the night (the Wildcats were one-for-eight) and freshman Jason Pawloski stopped 11 shots for Minnesota State in the contest in bringing his record to 3-0-2 for the year.

Minnesota State, which stands 6-6-2 overall and owns a 5-1-2 WCHA mark, continues league play next weekend with Alaska Anchorage visiting Verizon Wireless Center Friday and Saturday.
