BEMIDJI, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's hockey team scored half way through the third period to cut the Beavers lead to one goal, but that was not enough as BSU tallied an empty netter to cement to game.
The first period played out evenly as Minnesota State generated five shots to Bemidji State's seven. At the 7:01 mark, BSU took a 1-0 lead with Kristin Huber notching her fourth goal of the year off of a pass from Hanna Moher. Maverick netminder, junior
Brianna Quade (Newcastle, Ont.) produced six saves as the first frame came to a close.
In the second stanza, neither team was able to put the puck past their opposition's goal line. Quade proved to be a rock in net tallying 12 more stops by the end of the period, while the Mavericks recorded three shots on net.
The Beavers grabbed a two-goal lead at the 7:06 mark when Alexis Joyce recorded her fourth marker of the season on a play that was set up by Whitney Wivoda. Just under four minutes later, Minnesota State countered with sophomore
Amanda Conway (Naper, Ill.) delivering her third goal of the year on a pass from senior
Katie Johnson (Anoka, Minn.) at 11:17. With two minutes remaining, the Mavericks pulled the goalie to enhance a scoring opportunity, but Bemidji State was able to bury an empty-net goal with 1:13 remaining in the game to cement their victory when Summer Thibodeau hit the twine.
Shots on goal at the end of action saw a 30-14 mark in favor of the Beavers with Quade making 27 saves compared to Beaver goaltender, Brittni Mowat compiling 13. Minnesota State was unable to capitalize on their lone power-play chance while the Maverick penalty kill went to work, not allowing BSU to score on any of their five extra-attacker opportunities.
