MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State track and field teams will host a youth track camp through USATF Minnesota at Myers Field House on Sunday, Feb. 1.
Minnesota State track and field athletes and coaches will be presenting techniques for starting, sprinting, hurdling, middle distance and distance running, long jump, triple jump, high jump, pole vault and throws (discussion of discus and learn by doing with shot put). Participants will be provided with opportunities to learn by doing at this clinic and should come dressed ready to run, jump and throw. Athletes will have the opportunity to learn multiple events or they may choose to focus on one event area at two or all three sessions. Track spikes (no longer than 1/4 inch) may be worn but are not required for the running and jumping events. Parents and coaches are welcome to listen and learn during the presentations.
"The Minnesota State track and field staff was able to work at a USATF indoor youth track camp hosted by St. Thomas University in 2012 and we are happy to bring this camp to southern Minnesota and to Minnesota State," assistant coach Chris Parno said. "The camp is a great opportunity for athletes of all ages to work on techniques/drills and gain knowledge is multiple events. With half the day devoted to learning the events and the other devoted to a track meet, it proves to be a great and affordable opportunity to continue developing our sport."
Following the presentation and practice, the meet will begin at noon. Running events will include the 60m, 60m hurdles, 200m, 400m, 800m, mile run, 3000m run; field events include long jump, triple jump, shot put, high jump and pole vault.
