Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN, Fla. --- The Minnesota State softball team opened the Rebel Springs Games on the right foot Saturday as it defeated Wayne State (Mich.) 5-1 and Ohio Dominican 8-4. With the wins, MSU improves to 4-4 on the season.
The Mavericks began the day with a 5-1 win against the Wayne State (Mich.) Warriors.
Freshman
Coley Ries (2-1) earned the win as she allowed one run in six innings, while striking out six batters. Lyndsay Butler (5-1) took the loss as she surrendered four runs, one earned, through six innings, while fanning eight batters.
The Mavericks quickly jumped out to the lead as they strung together three runs in the top of the first to go up 3-0. All three of the runs were unearned as the Warriors committed two errors in the inning. Senior
Kelly Wood and sophomore
Tatum Klein each drove in a run.
Wood drove in her second run of the game off an RBI-single in the top of the third to put MSU up 4-0. The Warriors would respond in the bottom of the fourth of an RBI-single from Julie Ingratta, but that was all the Warriors could get off Ries as she gave up just one hit in her final two innings of work.
Senior
Lindsay Erickson put MSU up 5-1 with a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh, before junior
Brittany Lauterbach took the circle in the bottom of the seventh as she locked down the Mavericks 5-1 win.
The Mavericks finished the day with an 8-4 win over the Ohio Dominican Panthers. Lauterbach picked up the win for the Mavericks to improve to 2-3 on the season.
MSU continues play in the Rebel Springs Games Sunday as it takes on LIU Post (1 p.m.) and Ferris State (3 p.m.).
