MANKATO, Minn. --- Sophomore Brianna Quade made her third career start in goal for the Mavericks producing 36 saves, but Danielle Gagne's game-winning-goal in the second period helped Ohio State defeat Minnesota State 2-0 Saturday afternoon at All-Season's Arena.

With the loss the Mavericks drop to 0-9-1 overall and 0-7-1 in WCHA play while the Buckeyes move to 7-3-0 and 5-3-0 in league play.

Minnesota State came out of the gates strong in early on in the first period testing OSU goalkeeper Stacy Danczak often. Ohio State took the momentum in the second half of the opening frame having three power-play opportunities. The Mavericks special teams unit was up to the test killing all three penalties as game remained scoreless heading into the first intermission.

The Buckeyes were able to score the game's first goal at 4:18 of the second period as the Mavericks turned the puck over in their own zone and Danielle Gagne snuck behind the defense and beat Quade glove side to put OSU up 1-0.

In the final period of play the pace of play picked up with the Mavericks controlling the puck in the Buckeyes zone creating a few scoring opportunities, but OSU's defense would not break. Kendall Curtis scored an empty net goal at 18:50 to solidify the win for Ohio State.

The Mavericks outshot the Buckeyes in the third period 7-5, but OSU won the shot battle overall 38-17. The Mavericks committed five penalties but were able to kill them all. Ohio State was able to stay out of the box all afternoon.

Minnesota State will travel to No. 3 Wisconsin to take on the Badgers on Thursday night and Friday afternoon at 7:07 p.m. and 3:07 p.m., respectively.
