Point of Clarification on The Streak

5/30/2013 2:26:00 PM

Just a few things as we head into tonight's NCAA Division II Baseball Championship game between Minnesota State (41-8) and St. Edward's (Tex.) (37-16), which is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. EST start at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, N.C.

We went back to take a look at Jason Hoppe's incredible scoreless innings pitched streak and found that we had neglected the last out of the first inning in the game April 7 vs. Augustana that actually got things rolling. So, taking into account that out, his streak actually stands at 52 innings without allowing a run.  Again, the NCAA DII single-season record is 54 innings by Kyle Jones of SIU-Edwardsville in 2006. So two innings to tie, 2.1 innings to establish the record.

In the event you haven't seen our NCAA DII Baseball Championship blog, go HERE to check it out. Lots of great insight there covering the Mavericks during their stay in North Carolina.

The Mavericks have been keeping us busy with the announcement of awards rolling in.  In the past few days, senior pitcher Harvey Martin has been selected national DII Pitcher of the Year by the NCBWA, the ADCA and Datronics.  He's also a finalist for the Tino Martinez Award as the top player in NCAA DII. Harvey's been joined on All-America teams by Jason Hoppe and Nolan Johnson has been garned honorable mention attention.  Head coach Matt Magers has been named NCBWA National NCAA DII Coach of the Year and Ben Keller picked up his second NCAA DII Elite 89 Award.  We haven't had a chance to do the release yet, but Keller has also been named a CoSIDA Academic All-American.  Quite the haul.

We'll be tweeting tonight during the game, so be sure to follow @NCAAD2CWS.  We also post all of our stuff on the Minnesota State Athletics facebook account.
