Box Score   Minneapolis, Minn. --- Minnesota State used some late-inning heroics in claiming a pair of nonconference college baseball wins over the University of Sioux Falls in the Metrodome today.

The Mavericks downed the Cougars by the scores of 4-3 and 3-2.

The ninth-rated Mavericks trailed the Cougars 3-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning in the first game, but keyed by a two-run triple by sophomore shortstop Todd Standish, rallied to claim the 4-3 win.  Junior outfielder Scott Linder, who had an RBI triple in the fourth, was two-for-two, scored a run, drew a walk and stole two bases.  Senior righthander Mahlon Zimmermann, MSU's third pitcher in the game, tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless relief to get the win.  Zimmermann fanned three while allowing no hits or walks.

The second game stood knotted at 1-1 after six innings before the Mavericks scored via an RBI single from sophomore infielder Connor McCallum and an unearned run on a USF throwing error in the top of the seventh. Junior outfielder Parker Sullivan was three-for-four with a run scored and a pair of stolen bases. Junior righthander Bryce Bellin scattered three hits over six innings of work while giving up one unearned run, two walks and striking out three to get the win. Newcomer Tyler Sparger pitched the final inning to get the save.

The two victories ups MSU's record to 3-1 for the season.  Next action for the Mavericks is Tuesday, Feb. 26 with a nonconference doubleheader in the Metrodome vs. Bemidji State scheduled.
