Box Score Winona, Minn. --- The #25 Minnesota State women’s basketball team kept things rolling Saturday evening as it earned its ninth straight victory with a 77-68 win over Winona State.
With the win, MSU improves to 20-4 on the season, with a 16-4 record in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. With the loss, WSU drops to 18-9, with a 12-8 record in league play.
After some back and forth action in the first five minutes of the contest, MSU asserted itself as it took a 51-30 lead into halftime. As a team, MSU shot 60.6% (20-of-33) from the field in the first half, to go along with a 7-of-11 (.636) showing from beyond the arc.
MSU would maintain its lead through the entire second half, despite being outscored 38-26 in the second frame, as it secured the 77-68 win.
It was in the first half that junior
Ali Wilkinson became the 20th member of the 1,000 point club at MSU as she dropped in a team-high 14 points, to go along with a six rebounds. She finished the day with 14 points and seven rebounds to her credit.
Junior
Aubrey Davis chipped in with 13 points five rebounds and five assists, while junior
Karlee Gengenbacher added 12 points and two steals. Sophomore
Ashley Olson posted 11 points and four rebounds as well.
As a team, MSU shot 50% from the field (30-of-60) and a crisp 11-of-21 (.524) from beyond the arc. The Mavericks also passed out 17 assists and forced 15 Winona State turnovers.
Becca Friestleben led the Warriors with 25 points, while Katie Wolff and Michelle Tobin added 14 points each.
As a team, WSU shot 22-of-57 (.386) from the field and 12-of-28 (.429) from behind the three point line. The Warriors also connected on 12-of-13 (.923) from the charity stripe.
MSU returns home for its final two regular season games of the season beginning Friday as it takes on Sioux Falls. The opening tip is set for 6 p.m.
