Box Score FAYETTE, Iowa --- The top-rated Minnesota State football team secured its second straight undefeated regular season Saturday afternoon as it downed the Upper Iowa Peacocks 73-7.
With its win, MSU has improved to 11-0 on the season and has now won its last 22 NSIC games dating back to week one of the 2012 season. The win also gives the Mavericks sole possession of the NSIC Regular Season Championship for the second straight season.
MSU posted a new single game-high 73 points, breaking the previous record of 70 points set against Peru State (9/6/07) and Upper Iowa (11/10/12).
The Mavericks dominated on offensive side of the ball all day long as they posted touchdowns on each of their first 10 drives.
The Maverick rushing attack accounted for 526 of MSU's 633 total yards of offense. MSU's 526 rushing yards finished just 11 yards shy of the single-game record of 537 rushing yards set against North Dakota back in the 1986 season. `  Â
Senior
Jon Wolf finished his day with a career-high 201 rushing yards to go along with two rushing touchdowns. Sophomore
Mitch Brozovich also made an impact at the quarterback position, rushing for four rushing touchdowns. Sophomore
Chad Zastrow notched a career-high 162 rushing yards as well, to go along with one touchdown carry.
Through the air, Wolf completed 5-of-8 passes for 77 yards, while Brozovich notched 30 passing yards on two completions. Senior
Dennis Carter posted a team-high 53 receiving yards.
While the Mavericks offense kept rolling, the MSU defense also didn't miss a beat as it limited the UIU rushing attack to -2 rushing yards, and 161 passing yards on the day. The Peacocks managed just 13 first downs as Upper Iowa was kept scoreless until the 3:31 mark of the fourth quarter.
Sophomore
Evan Koehler led the Maverick defense with six tackles, while sophomore
Justin Otto posted a team-high two tackles for a loss. The MSU defense also posted three turnovers on the day as sophomore
Gabe Wolfe and senior
Diontae Jones each recovered a fumble, while junior
Nathan Hancock recorded his fifth interception of the season.
Upper Iowa's lone score of the game came on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Cole Jaeschke to Lucas Hefty with 3:31 left in the game.
MSU will learn its postseason fate Sunday, at 4 p.m., during the NCAA Selection Show. A watch party will be held at the Country Inn and Suites conference room in Mankato, with a no-host social being held at Bonfire beginning at 3:30 p.m.
