Foreshadowing: After posting a 44-10 victory over Winona State this past weekend, the #1 Minnesota State football team wraps up its regular season home schedule Saturday as it hosts the Wayne State Wildcats. The opening kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
Our History: The 2013 season marks the school's 87th season playing football. The Mavericks are 403-376-28 (.516) in 807 games since their inception as a varsity sport in 1922. Minnesota State is in its sixth season in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and owns a 50-9 (.847) record in league action. Over the course of its history, MSU has claimed 18 conference championships, including 16 NIC titles. Last season, the Mavericks advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament.
Grabbing the Reigns: The 2013 season marks the second season with interim Head Football Coach
Aaron Keen patrolling the sidelines for Minnesota State. Last season, Keen guided the Mavericks to a 13-1 record, en route to an appearance in the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament. Keen currently boasts a head coaching record of 44-28, including an unblemished mark of 19-0 in NSIC play. He owns a 21-1 record at Minnesota State.
Mutual History: Saturday's meeting between the Mavericks and the Wildcats will mark the sixth time they have faced each other dating back to the 2008 season. MSU owns a 5-0 record against the Wildcats, including a 2-0 record at Blakeslee Stadium. Last season, the Mavericks defeated WSC 42-35 in Wayne, Neb.
Concerning the Mavericks: The Minnesota State Mavericks improved to 8-0 this past weekend as they defeated Winona State 44-10 at Blakeslee Stadium. MSU mustered 520 yards of total offense in its recent victory, while limiting the WSU offense to 185 total yards.
The Maverick defense tied a school record with nine sacks against the Warriors, with the first time coming against Minnesota Morris in the 1979 season. Sophomore
Josh Gordon led the defense with three sacks, while sophomore
Tyler Henderson led the team with eight tackles, including 3.5 for a loss. As a unit, the MSU defense allowed -31 rushing yards against Winona State, and limited the Warriors to 216 passing yards. The defense also notched one interception and one fumble recovery.
Gordon currently leads the Mavericks with 5.5 sacks, while junior
Kris Fleigle leads the team with 47 tackles. Gordon, along with senior
Chris Schaudt, each have a team-high seven tackles for loss, while junior
Nathan Hancock and sophomore
Patrick Schmidt have each tallied four interceptions.

Jon Wolf leads the Maverick rushing attack with 653 yards and nine touchdowns this season, while sophomore
Connor Thomas ranks second on the team with 621 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.
Wolf has thrown for 1,266 yards and 12 touchdowns through eight games this season. Senior
Dennis Carter leads MSU with 572 receiving yards and seven touchdown catches. Junior
Austin Rieder has 304 receiving yards and two touchdowns on the season as well.
Concerning the Wildcats: The Wayne State Wildcats fell to 2-6 last week as they lost to Concordia-St. Paul 28-24 for their third straight loss.
Charlie Davidson leads the WSC rushing attack with 1,029 yards and nine touchdowns.
Zach Osborn has thrown for 1,784 yards and 16 touchdowns on the season. Adam Stark leads WSC receiving corps with 620 yards and 5 touchdowns, while Tonev Abraham has tallied 518 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
Nick Monzu leads the Wildcats with 58 tackles, while Jeff Van Den Top leads the team with 8.5 tackles for loss.
