7/31/2026 2:48:00 PM

MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State football team begins fall practice on Monday, August 3. Starting on Monday, the Mavericks take part in 16 practices, leading up to the first day of school on Monday, August 24.

"We are excited to commence the 2026 football team for fall drills on August 2," head coach Todd Hoffner said. "After playing in 29 games over the last two season's our veterans have earned a considerable amount of experience and maturity during the regular season and the NCAA Playoffs."

"With a strong number of defensive players returning on the back seven, our defense is looking to constrict opposing offenses with a bend, but don't break mentality," Hoffner said. "We are returning 13 rotational starters from 2025 team on defense and we are looking to improve our performance in multiple categories in order to improve our statistical standings in the NSIC and nationally."

"With a heavy amount of Offensive Linemen (5), Running Backs (2) & Quarterbacks (2) returning from last year we are expecting to run the ball better in the NSIC & Nationally as we look improve on point production," Hoffner said. "Ultimately looking for better performance in the conference and nationally in multiple categories."

"With a plethora of talent waiting on the horizon, it will be our job as coaches to help our team become more cohesive and play for the brotherhood," Hoffner said. "A team-first mentality will lead to more productivity in the standings, run defense and rush offense which will ultimately aid us in competing for an NSIC Championship."
