Box Score Minnesota State capped off a two game homestand with a 74-55 win over MSU Moorhead
Mankato, Minn. --- The 24th-rated Minnesota State women’s basketball team returned to the hardwood for the second game of its two-game homestand as the Mavericks downed Minnesota State Moorhead, 74-55, to improve to 11-2 on the season and 7-2 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
The Mavericks first five points were scored by junior
Karlee Gengenbacher giving Minnesota State the 5-1 advantage just over two minutes into the contest.
Minnesota State would use a balanced scoring attack in the opening stanza as six Mavericks found their way into the scoring column led by sophomore
Aubrey Davis, who finished the half with 12 points, giving Minnesota State a 39-30 advantage going into intermission.
The Mavericks improved their shooting performance from their last time on the court, as they converted on 44% (15-24) of their shots from the floor, 43% (6-14) from behind the arc and didn’t miss a free throw, going 3-3 from the charity stripe.
Minnesota State turned the heat up on the Dragons in the second half as it opened up a 20 point lead with 11:20 remaining in regulation, the Mavericks would lead by as many as 29, holding a 70-41 advantage with 8:05 still to play.
Nine different Mavericks would find their way to the scoring column, led by Davis who finished with a career-high 23 points, she was joined by Gengenbacher who finished the contest with 17 points. The duo, were the only two to reach double-figures.
The Mavericks converted on 30-of-59 (51%) of their shots from the floor, 9-of-23 (39%) of their shots from downtown, and 5-of-9 (56%) from the charity stripe.
Minnesota State will take to the road as it will play three road games in five days, beginning with a match-up against Concordia-St. Paul, Tuesday at 6 p.m. in St. Paul.
