Cary, N.C. - After falling 3-2 in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Baseball World Series to Southern New Hampshire, the Minnesota State Mavericks play the Chico State Wildcats Monday in what will be an elimination game in the double-elimination tournament.
Opening Round Recap: Minnesota State (48-11) committed five uncommon errors in its opening round loss to Southern New Hampshire as all three runs the Penmen scored were unearned.
MSU led 2-0 through five innings until error plagued sixth and seventh innings gave Southern New Hampshire the 3-2 lead where the score would remain.
Uncommon Numbers: The five hits MSU recorded against Southern New Hampshire were the lowest since recording just four hits against Winona State in a 2-1 victory on May 1.
The five Maverick errors were the most in any game this season. MSU committed four errors back on Mar. 24 in a 9-2 win against Minnesota Duluth.
Before last night's game, Minnesota State had scored two or fewer runs in just nine of 58 games played.
