Mavericks to Make Sixth World Series Appearance

CARY, N.C. - Minnesota State (48-10), the 2012 NSIC regular-season and post-season tournament champions, won the 2012 NCAA Division II Baseball Central Regional Tournament in Mankato last week and have earned the right to play in the 2012 NCAA DII World Series. which runs May 26 through June 2 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.

The NCAA Division II Baseball World Series, which is held at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., is an eight-team double elimination championship which will determine the top team of the 2012 baseball season.

The Mavericks, who are making their sixth world-series appearance and their second appearance in the last three years, will open the tournament Saturday, May 26 against Southern New Hampshire with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m., CST.

MSU's post-season appearance is the program's 31st appearance in the NCAA Division II tournament.

MSU is joined in the NCAA DII World Series with West Chester (42-10), Cal State Chico (40-17), Southern New Hampshire (42-13), Catawba (43-15), Indianapolis (46-14), St. Mary's (48-9) and Delta State (46-13).

MSU's 31 NCAA Tournament appearances rank only behind Florida Southern's 39 trips to the national tournament.  The Mavericks stand 51-55 overall in NCAA regional play.  The Mavericks have won six regional titles - 1971, 1979, 1980, 1986,  2010 and 2012.  Minnesota State has hosted seven regional tournaments - 1968, 1969, 1971, 1974, 1977, 1988 and 2012.
