MSU to Close Regular Season Road Schedule This Week

What Lies Ahead: Thirteenth-ranked Minnesota State (29-6, 9-1 NSIC) hits the road Tuesday to face 23rd ranked Augustana for a NSIC doubleheader at 3 p.m.
    MSU then faces Upper Iowa at 1 p.m. in Fayette, Iowa before it closes its regular season road schedule in Winona against #3 Winona State on Saturday at 1 p.m.

What Just Happened: Minnesota State went 6-0 in its six NSIC games last week. The Mavericks swept Wayne State on the road after 5-3 and 8-3 wins. MSU then opened its home schedule against MSU Moorhead and took 16-1 and 9-1 victories on Saturday, both which last five innings. The Mavericks then shut out the Golden Eagles of Minnesota, Crookston after taking 5-0 and 8-0 wins Sunday.
    MSU had more extra base hits (24) last week then opponents had for total hits (23) against the Mavericks. The Mavericks hit .421 over the course of last week and held opponents to a .177 batting average. Five MSU players hit over .400 in the six games. MSU's Lindsay Erickson and Brittani Robinson both hit three home runs while the team totaled 12 long balls.

Head Coach Lori Meyer:  One of the most respected coaches in all of NCAA Division II softball, Lori Meyer is in her 28th year as the head coach of the Minnesota State softball team.  Meyer owns a career record of 907-571-3 (.613) in 1,481 games.  A seven-time NCC Coach of the Year, Meyer has guided the Mavericks to three North Central Conference titles (1987, 1989 and 2007), and guided the ‘87 Mavericks to a third-place finish at the NCAA Division II National Tournament and has made nine trips to the NCAA postseason and two trips to the NCAA Championships (1987, 2011).

Minnesota State History:  The 2012 season marks the 38th for Maverick softball.  MSU owns an all-time record of 1,032-669-7 (.606) in 1,708 games, and have four North Central Conference titles (1984, 1987, 1989, 2007) and ten appearances in the NCAA Division II National Tournament (1984, 1987, 1989, 1995, 1997, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011) to its credit.

MSU Notes: Minnesota State has scored 20 or more runs in the first (38), second (24), third (28), fourth (38) and seventh (22) innings this season...The Mavericks are 6-1 in games in which it has scored 0-2 runs and is 21-0 when limiting its opponents to two or fewer runs...The Mavericks are 11-0 when scoring in the first inning and 25-0 when scoring first...The Mavericks are 19-2 when not committing an error...Sophomore Lindsay Erickson leads MSU with 17 multiple-hit games while she also has multiple-RBI games...Freshman infielder Brittani Robinson has eight multiple-RBI games...Lindsay Erickson's 11-game hitting streak to start the season was the longest this season as she currently owns a team-leading nine game hitting streak...Lindsay Erickson started the season reaching base in 15 straight games, which is the longest streak of the year...Minnesota State is hitting .330 with bases empty and .355 with the bases loaded this season...The Mavericks are hitting .438 to lead off an inning and.500 with runners on third with less than two outs.


Record Book: Several Mavericks are also making a dent in the record book.
      Senior pitcher Kendra Huettl is first in career strikeouts (662), second in wins (80), second in shutouts (19), tied for third in saves (7), tied for second in games started (110), fourth in complete games (64), fourth in innings pitched (695), third in appearances (136).
      Junior pitcher Courtney McKelvogue is ninth in appearances (92), seventh in wins (55), fifth in strikeouts (422), eighth in inning pitched (464) and sixth in shutouts (14).  
      Senior outfielder Chelsea Erickson ranks fourth in career home runs with 25 while junior outfielder Lauryn Morris is fourth in stolen bases with 43.  Senior Melanie Upchurch sits fifth in steals with 41 and junior shortstop Abby Sonner is eighth with 26.
