Box Score 2 Kissimmee, Fla.—The Minnesota State softball team took two victories on Monday as it beat Lees-McRae ,12-0, in five innings and then took down #12 C.W. Post ,6-1, in the second game. MSU gave up just three hits on the day in the 12 innings played.
In the morning game, the Mavericks jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the top of the first that was guided by three Bobcat errors. MSU senior outfielder
Melanie Upchurch singled to start the offensive surge and then stole second. Sophomore catcher
Lindsay Erickson reached the base paths by an error on the third baseman., scoring Upchurch. Lindsay Erickson crossed the plate when sophomore third baseman
Kelly Wood reached all the way to second on an error by the second baseman. Freshman infielder
Brittani Robinson knocked Wood in before Robinson took second on a passed ball. MSU senior outfielder
Chelsea Erickson brought in Robinson on a fielders choice to give Minnesota State the early 4-0 lead.

Chelsea Riordan singled and was brought in by an Upchurch RBI single.

Abby Sonner had back-to-back one-out walks in the third inning. Erickson scored as the bases were loaded and Christina Redd grounded out before Sonner made it 7-0 when she scored on a passed ball.
The Mavericks scored four runs in the fourth, as Less McRae had two errors in the field. Robinson brought Lindsay Erickson home on a ground out to third and Wood scored on a throwing error. Maverick outfielder Chelsea Erickson scored after Riordan grounded out to first as Sonner scored on an error by the shortstop.
Minnesota State third baseman Chloe Minkel and Wood singled to start the top of the fifth before Minkel was called out on second for leaving early. Wood was brought in by Robinson’s double to finish with a 12-0 win.

Brittany Lauterbach pitched the final two innings to complete the shutout.
In game two, MSU beat another team that competed in the 2011 NCAA Division II Championships. The 6-1 win marks the second win against a ranked opponent on the Florida trip. MSU senior pitcher
Kendra Huettl guided the Mavericks with her second complete game one-hitter of the past two days.
After a scoreless first, Robinson reached on a single to start the second. Robinson reached second on a sacrifice bunt and then third after an error by C.W. Post’s third baseman, landing Sonner on second. Riordan and Redd each hit RBI singles to give MSU a 2-0 lead.
Two scoreless innings went by before MSU expanded its lead and scored two more in the fifth inning.
Chelsea Erickson had a one-out single that drove in Wood and Lindsay Erickson.
C.W. Post’s only hit of the game came after Carly Chamberlain walked and took second after a passed ball, being brought in by a Nicole Hagenah single.
MSU put two back on the board in the sixth after Riordan and Redd singled before Lindsay Erickson hit a two-run double that scored them, giving MSU the 6-1 win. Riordan, Redd, Chelsea Erickson and Wood all had two hits in the game.
