Box Score 2 Minneapolis, Minn. --- #15 Minnesota State continued nonconference action in the Metrodome Wednesday, with the Mavericks coming away with a split of their doubleheader with Bemidji State.
The Mavericks fell in the first game, 6-2, before rebounding to claim a 4-0 win in the second tilt.
The Mavericks could not get going offensively in today's opening game and it was only after BSU had built a 6-0 lead over the course of the game's first six and half innings before MSU got untracked. Senior first baseman
Matt Odegaard singled with one out and advanced to third on a double from sophomore outfielder
Scott Lindner. Both players eventually scored on BSU errors for a pair of unearned runs. Sophomore
Tyler Ockuly, who took the loss, threw the first 4.1 innings for the Mavericks while giving up six hits and three earned runs while fanning eight.
Senior third baseman
Pat Dockendorf, who went two-for-three with a double and a homer, provided the muscle for MSU's 4-0 win in the second game. Junior outfielder
Mike Eckhart went two-for-three and drove in a pair of runs and Odegaard, who was one-for-three, also doubled. The Mavericks used three pitchers in the game, including sophomore
TJ Larson, who started and didn't allow a run in five innings while striking out six and scattering two hits. Sophomore
Bryce Bellin tossed one inning of flawless relief to get the win, while senior
Ben Kincaid closed out the game with a scoreless seventh inning.
Next action for Minnesota State (3-1 overall, 0-0 NSIC) is slated for Friday, Feb. 24 in a pair of nonconference games vs. Colorado Christian in the Metrodome.
