Pueblo, Colo. --- The Minnesota State softball team pounded 13 hits, including three triples en route to a 10-1 victory over Nebraska Kearney Sunday afternoon its final game of the 2012 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference/Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Crossover Challenge.
The Mavericks used a run in the first and four more in the third to stake a 5-0 lead and never look back. Minnesota State added another run in the top of the fifth and four more in the top of the seventh to ice the win.
Sophomore catcher #Lindsay Erickson# went 4-for-4 from the plate with two runs scored and two more driven in while junior outfielder #Lauryn Morris# added a 2-for-4 effort with two runs scored. Senior centerfielder Chelsea Erickson went 2-for-4 as well with three RBI and freshman designated player #Chelsea Riordan# went 2-for-4 in her debut with the squad. Junior shortstop #Abby Sonner# connected on her first home run of the season as she went 1-for-4 with two runs scored.
Senior righthander Kendra Huettl earned her first win of the season as she worked five innings allowing six hits and one run while striking out six. Redshirt freshman #Brittany Lauterbach# worked the final two innings, striking out one and not allowing a hit.
Minnesota State (2-3) return to action Wednesday when it travels to Vadnis Heights to face Minnesota Duluth in a pair of nonconference games. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m.
