MSU sees three players finish with double-digit points

Mavericks Roll Over Visiting Beavers

Box Score MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota State came back with a vengeance Saturday afternoon defeating the visiting Bemidji State Beavers 81-50 at the Taylor Center.
 
The Mavericks did a lot of their damage from beyond the arc in the win making 13-of-27 (48.1 3FG%) three-pointers which is the most they have made since draining 12 against Upper Iowa on Jan. 8, 2010.
 
Minnesota State, seeking revenge from a last-second loss earlier this season to Bemidji State, also made the most of its opportunities close to the basket outscoring the Beavers 24-12 in the paint.
 
Freshman forward Jamie Bresnahan added a game-high 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting while also leading the Mavericks with eight rebounds.  Joining Bresnahan as the focal point in the paint was counterpart Laura Weber.  The senior forward finished with 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting while grabbing seven rebounds.
 
Minnesota State sprinted out to an early 9-0 lead, making four of its first five shots over the course of the first three and a half minutes before Bemidji State made its first basket.
 
The Mavericks would use another run in the first half, this time an 8-2 run, highlighted by back-to-back three pointers by sophomore guard Lizzie Stenhaug as the Mavericks took a 27-12 lead with 8:13 remaining in the half.
 
MSU went into the break with a 47-29 lead as 14 of the team’s 18 field goals were assisted upon.  Senior guard Jennie Noreen led the Mavericks with five assists while also adding eight points and two rebounds.
 
Morgan Lee led the Beavers with 11 points, including a 5-of-6 performance from the free-throw line, as Bemidji State fell to 8-17 overall and 6-14 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
 
The Mavericks finished the game shooting 48.4 percent from the field compared to just 30.4 percent by the Beavers.  MSU also assisted on 20 of its 30 made field goals as Noreen finished the game with six helpers while freshman guard Aubrey Davis added five and sophomore guard Alli Hoefer finished with four.
 
Committing just 11 of its own turnovers throughout the game, MSU forced 23 Beaver turnovers which resulted in 30 Maverick points.
 
Minnesota State (16-9, 12-9 NSIC) will host its final game of the regular season next week when it plays Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday with tipoff at 2 p.m.
