Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota State was sparked by a season-high 22 points by freshman guard
Aubrey Davis against Concordia Saturday afternoon as the Mavericks came away with the 71-65 win over the Golden Bears.
In the first half, which saw six ties and five lead changes, it was MSU who took a 25-22 lead with just over three minutes remaining after back-to-back three pointers by Davis and freshman forward
Jamie Bresnahan.
Minnesota State would go into the break with a 30-24 lead behind Davis’ 12 points as she connected on 4-of-7 from the field including 2-of-3 from downtown. Bresnahan joined Davis in double figures with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting. She also led all players with six first-half rebounds.
Over the first 6:15 of the second half, CU was able to capture its first lead of the half going on a 15-8 run taking the 39-38 lead. However, from this point, MSU would create a little cushion as it saw victory in its sights.
With the score tied at 47, MSU used a 16-8 run to earn its largest lead of the game at 65-55 with just 3:19 remaining.
From here, MSU was able to convert its late free throws, finishing 16-of-24 from the line, as the Mavericks dropped Concordia to 10-15 overall and 7-12 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
The Mavericks were led by Davis who recorded a season-high 22 points including a 10-of-12 performance from the free-throw line while also adding six rebounds. Joining Davis with double-digit points was Bresnahan who recorded her second double-double of the season scoring 15 points while pulling down 10 rebounds. Senior forward
Laura Weber was the third and final Maverick in double digits finishing with 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting.
Concordia was led by Anika Whiting who finished with 17 points on 8-of-18 shooting while Rachel Hansen added 16 points including an 8-of-8 effort from the charity stripe.
MSU finished the night shooting 44.6 percent from the field compared to 40.7 percent by the Golden Bears. The Mavericks recorded seven more rebounds (39-32) than CU, while the Golden Bears committed one fewer turnovers (14-13).
Minnesota State (15-8, 11-8 NSIC) returns home for its next action which comes against Minnesota Duluth on Feb. 17 at 6 p.m., at the Taylor Center.
