Junior Danielle Butters amassed 34 saves Friday evening to pace the Mavericks

Box Score Minneapolis, Minn. ---  The Minnesota State women’s hockey team fell short Friday evening inside Ridder Arena dropping a WCHA contest to top-ranked Minnesota 3-0.

The match was scoreless through one frame as junior netminder Danielle Butters carried the load for the Mavericks stopping all 12 shots she faced.

The Golden Gophers broke through in the second stanza at 14:02 when Hannah Brandt beat Butters to give UM a 1-0 advantage.  Minnesota would strike again at 19:00 of the period when Maryanne Menefee tallied a marker to stretch the lead to two.

Minnesota State came out hot in the third period firing 14 shots on four power-play opportunities, but were unable to find the back of the net.  Brandt seeled the victory for Minnesota at 4:02 of the third period with her second goal of the game.

All in all, Butters collected 34 saves for the Mavericks who finished zero-for-five on the advantage, while Noora Raty stopped all 24 shots for the Golden Gophers who were unable to score on their two power-plays chances.

Minnesota State (4-7-2, 2-5-1-1 in WCHA) goes for the series split tomorrow afternoon with the puck set to drop at 4:07 p.m. at Ridder Arena.
