Madison, Wis. --- The Western Collegiate Hockey Association announced Wednesday it has named Minnesota State senior forward
Lauren Smith this week’s WCHA Offensive Player of the Week.
Smith, a Burnsville, Minn. native, was instrumental in leading the Mavericks - who defeated their first ranked opponent of the year - to a come-from-behind victory over #5 North Dakota last Friday in Grand Forks.
The senior scored her second goal with 38 seconds remaining in regulation to break a 2-2 tie as Minnesota State scored three goals in the final ten minutes to spring the upset over UND 3-2 for the first-time at Ralph Engelstad Arena in over a year.
She added an assist in Saturday’s series finale, while firing seven shots and posting a +1 plus/minus rating over the weekend.
Minnesota State (1-2-1, 1-2-1-0 WCHA) returns home to Mankato for a four-game homestand kicking off Friday at 7:07 p.m.as it plays host to Lindenwood (0-4-0, 0-0-0 CHA) at All Seasons Arena.
