Box Score DULUTH, Minn. – Minnesota State dropped its second consecutive game Saturday afternoon as Minnesota Duluth survived a late comeback attempt by the Mavericks earning a 56-54 win.
The Bulldogs controlled the first half as they found themselves up 21 points with 3:10 remaining. The Mavericks made just five baskets in the half, shooting 19.2 percent from the floor, while UMD shot 34.2 percent and outrebounded MSU, 31-17.
The Bulldogs put together a 28-6 run over the game’s first 17 minutes while they went into half with a 30-14 lead.
The second half was much more successful for the Mavericks as they found their offense, shooting 57.1 percent in the half, cutting the Bulldogs lead to just one at 53-52 with 1:29 remaining.

Jamie Bresnahan connected on a jumper which tied the game at 54 with just a minute remaining.
The Bulldogs would make what turned out to be the game winner with 19.1 seconds remaining as Shelly Stemper’s layup gave UMD the 56-54 lead where the score would remain as a last-second three-point attempt by freshman guard
Aubrey Davis fell short.
Davis led the Mavericks with 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting including 3-of-7 from three-point range. Two other Mavericks contributed double-digit scoring including Bresnahan who finished with 13 points on 6-of-14 from the field and senior forward
Laura Weber who scored 12 points while collecting nine rebounds.
Minnesota Duluth was led by Courtney Doucette’s 12 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals as the Bulldogs improved to 11-6 overall and 8-5 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
The Mavericks held a slight advantage from the floor, connecting on 38.9 percent from the floor compared to 37.7 by the Bulldogs. MSU was outrebounded, 41-35, while committing one less turnover (15-14).
Minnesota State (12-5, 8-5 NSIC) returns to action Friday, Jan. 27 when it faces Winona State as tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
