Ninth-Rated Mavericks Looks to Extend Streak Against Warriors and Beavers

On Tap: Minnesota State, 33-8 overall, 25-3 in the NSIC, hosts Winona State for their final home Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader of the season before traveling to Bemidji, Minn. on Saturday and Sunday to play their final four regular season contests against the Bemidji State Beavers.

A Look at the Warriors: The Winona State Warriors sit 27-12 overall and own a 21-7 NSIC record...Minnesota State owns a 55-22 mark all-time versus Winona State...In WSU's last action, the Warriors took three-of-four games from the Bemidji State University Beavers in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference series which was their final home series of the season...Senior outfielder Joe Kley leads the Warriors with an impressive .370 batting average, along with his team-best 50 hits, team-best 10 doubles, a team-high seven homeruns and an impressive 45 runs batted in...Junior outfielder/pitcher Tony Mueller also owns a nice batting average of .361, and leads the team with five triples...Mueller also has 44 hits, one double, one homer and 19 RBI...On the mound, junior pitcher Kodey Simon has pitched a team-high 53 innings while recording a 4-1 record...Simon has a team-best 1.53 ERA and 40 strikeouts.

A Look at the Beavers: The Bemidji State Beavers own a 17-24 overall mark and are 11-16 in NSIC action...Minnesota State owns a 30-7 record all-time against Bemidji State...In their last action, the Beavers dropped three-of-four games from the Winona State Warriors in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference series which was played in Winona, Minn...Senior utility man Colton Smith leads WSU at the plate owning five team-bests: a .320 batting average, 49 hits, 29 runs, 12 doubles and 19 RBI...BSU senior outfielder Nick Jelacie has also been successful at the plate with his 36 hits, 29 runs scored, five doubles, two triples and a team-best six homers...Leading the Beavers on the mound is senior right-handed pitcher Ryan Sander who owns a 3.74 ERA and 32 strikeouts.

Last Action: Minnesota State played six games this past week and won all of them, extending their winning streak to an impressive and record breaking 21 games...The week began with a doubleheader on the road versus Minnesota, Crookston in which the Mavericks swept the Golden Eagles with two shutouts, 14-0 and 11-0, then swept Southwest Minnesota State in a home-and-home series: 11-4, 2-1, 5-0, 14-4...swept the Peacocks in four games, 9-8, 4-3. 21-2 and 3-0...With the six wins, MSU keeps sole possession of first place in the NSIC...Junior infielder Patrick Dockendorf led MSU at the plate this week, starting all six contests with an impressive .500 batting average...Dockendorf not only led the team with his .500 average, but tallied team-bests in hit with 10 and runs with 11...The junior third baseman also tagged two doubles, six RBI and walked five times...Another successful Maverick at the plate was senior outfielder Aaron Berner who went 10-for-21 (.476) with  a team-best nine RBI...Junior right-handed Blake Schwartz hit the mound twice this week for the first time in NSIC play this season...The righty finished the week with a 2-0 record and in his second victory, extended MSU's winning streak to 20 games, setting a new program record...The junior starter gave up three hits in 11 innings of work, walking none and striking out 13 batters...Sophomore right-handed closer Mahlon Zimmermann earned save number eight on the season.

Career Marks: Senior Danny Miller entered the season owner of a career best triples and has increased the record to 17 with his five this season...Miller has also toppled two other program marks this season, earning career RBI 145 and career walk 117...Miller sits first in career triples (17) and RBI (145), and is tied for first in walks with 117...Other categories Miller is close to earning the top spot include: games played (202: 15 away), at bats (656: 29 away), runs scored (163: 19 away), hits (223: 7 away), doubles (41: 4 away) and home runs (20: nine away).

Winning Streak: On May 1, 2011, Minnesota State defeated Southwest Minnesota State extending its winning streak to a record breaking 20 games, beating the old mark of 19 that was set in 1970 and 2007. MSU is currently in the midst of a 21-game winning streak after defeating SMSU in game two of the doubleheader.

Win #100: Minnesota State head coach Matt Magers and his team picked up win number 18 on 4/9/11 this season, bumping his career record to 100-41, becoming the third MSU coach to earn 100 win in a career in baseball program history...The two others to reach 100 career wins was Jean McCarthy (250-127) and Dean Bowyer (990-487-7)...Magers was the quickest of the three coaches to reach the milestone, accomplishing the feat in 141 games.

3-of-4 at Home:
In a series against SCSU on 4/1-4/2 MSU lost three of four games...The Last time that happened in a conference home series prior to this weekend was in 2008 when Nebraska Omaha accomplished the feat...Before that was in 2003 when Nebraska Omaha won all four games vs. MSU in Mankato.

Leading the Way: Senior infielder Zach Rowles leads the Mavericks in hits this season with 51, while Junior infielder Pat Dockendorf owns 50, which ranks second on the team...Senior outfielder and pitcher Danny Miller and Rowles are the only two Mavericks to have played in and started all 41 games this season...Junior infielder Jeremy Sudbeck and Dockendorf lead the Mavericks in batting average (.388)...Junior infielder Matt Kuchenbecker has hit a team-best 15 doubles, Miller leads the team in triples, having tagged five on the year and Dockendorf has hit a team-best six home runs on the season...Junior right-handed pitcher Blake Schwartz (2.13 ERA) and senior lefty Danny Miller (1.99 ERA) lead MSU on the mound, Schwartz with a 9-1 mark, while Miller owns a 8-1 record...Both Schwartz and Miller own a team-best 62 strikeouts...Sophomore closer Mahlon Zimmernann has racked up a team-high eight saves on the year.

NSIC Player of the Week: Senior outfielder Aaron Berner was named NSIC Player of the Week on 4-11-11...Berner finished the week with a hit in every game, going 9-for-17 with two doubles, one home run, 10 RBI and 11 runs scored...Berner also reached four times on walks.
