Mavericks open homestand 21-8 overall and 13-3 in NSIC

Minnesota State Opens Six-Game Homestand Wednesday

On Tap: Minnesota State, 21-8 overall, 13-3 in the NSIC, returns home for a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader against Augustana Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., then welcomes Upper Iowa to the MSU Baseball Complex for a pair of conference twinbills Friday (1:30 p.m.) and Saturday (12:00 p.m.).

A Look at the Vikings: The Augustana Vikings are 21-13 overall and own a 13-5 NSIC record...In Augustana's last action, the Vikings were swept by Winona State University in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader...Charlie Dubanoskl leads the Vikings with a team-best .434 batting average, while also racking up 53 hits, 11 doubles, and a team-high 35 RBI...Brandon Jasper owns the teams second highest batting average batting .397 with 27 hits and seven doubles...Drew Heithoff leads the team in stolen bases as he is a perfect 23-23 this season...On the mound, pitcher Tyson Gau has pitched a team-high 43.0 innings while recording a 4-3 record...Gau holds a 3.98 ERA with a team-best 49 strikeouts.

A Look at the Peacocks: The Upper Iowa Peacocks own a 17-16 overall mark and are 11-9 in NSIC action...On April 18 the Peacocks split a doubleheader against Southwest Minnesota State winning game one, 8-5, and dropping game two, 3-2 in 16 innings...Patrick Arntson leads the Peacocks with a .389 batting average and a team-best 24 RBI...Leading the Peacocks in at-bats (121), hits (45), and triples (3) is Nick Bergeman...Leading the Peacocks with a 1.71 ERA and 74 strikeouts is Josh McKeon...McKeon has started eight games for the Peacocks while recording a 3-2 record in 58.0 innings pitched...Also sporting an ERA below 2.00 is Matt Treybig who owns a 1.82 earned run average through six starts for the Peacocks...Treybig has recorded 35 strikeouts through 39.2 innings pitched this season.

Last Action: Minnesota State started its week at Wayne State for a pair NSIC contests, defeating the Wildcats 12-3 and 8-3...The Mavericks and Gusties of Gustavus Adolphus then played a nonconference tilt on Monday, April 18 in St. Peter, Minn., with the Mavericks taking the single nine-inning contest, 3-1...Junior infielder Jeremy Sudbeck led the team with a .556 batting average, going 5-for-9 at the plate including two doubles...Sudbeck also scored a run and had four RBI...Another successful Maverick at the plate was senior outfielder Aaron Berner who went 4-for-10 with a team-high six RBI and four runs scored...Senior infielder Zach Rowles and junior infielder Pat Dockendorf each tallied three doubles, leading the team in exra base hits...On the mound, senior Danny Miller (6-1), junior Blake Schwartz (6-1) and senior Luke Putz (4-1) each earn wins to improve thier records...Schwartz picked the most in his start, going 7.1 innings while also fanning a team-best 11.

Win #100: Minnesota State head coach Matt Magers and his team picked up win number 18 on 4/9/11 this season, bumping his career record to 100-41, becoming the third MSU coach to earn 100 win in a career in baseball program history...The two others to reach 100 career wins was Jean McCarthy (250-127) and Dean Bowyer (990-487-7)...Magers was the quickest of the three coaches to reach the milestone, accomplishing the feat in 141 games.

3-of-4 at Home: In a series against SCSU on 4/1-4/2 MSU lost three of four games...The Last time that happened in a conference home series prior to this weekend was in 2008 when Nebraska Omaha accomplished the feat...Before that was in 2003 when Nebraska Omaha won all four games vs. MSU in Mankato.

Leading the Way: Senior infielder Zach Rowles leads the Mavericks in hits this season with 35, while Junior infielder Pat Dockendorf owns 32, which ranks second on the team...Miller and Rowles are the only two Mavericks to have played in and started all 29 games this season...Junior infielder Jeremy Sudbeck leads the Mavericks in batting average (.382)...Junior infielder Matt Kuchenbecker has hit a team-best 10 doubles, senior outfielder/pitcher Danny Miller leads the team in triples, having tagged three on the year...has hit a team-best four home runs on the season...Junior right-handed pitcher Blake Schwartz leads MSU on the mound with a 61 mark, a team-best 2.17 ERA and 42 strikeouts which ranks second on the team, while Miller (6-1) holds a team-high 44 strikeouts.

NSIC Player of the Week: Senior outfielder Aaron Berner was named NSIC Player of the Week on 4-11-11... Berner finished the week with a hit in every game, going 9-for-17 with two doubles, one home run, 10 RBI and 11 runs scored...Berner also reached four times on walks

In the Nation:
As a team the Mavericks rank 10th in walkes allowed per nine innings (2.65), 14th in earned run average (2.61), T-17th in sacrifice flies (23), 26th in hits allowed per nine innings (8.02), 45th in triples per game (.32)...Individually, junior Matt Kuchenbecker sits 16th in the nation in RBI per game with 1.23.
