Colorado Springs, Colo. --- Minnesota State jumped out to an early lead, but could not hold on in dropping a 2-1 decision at 19th-rated Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colo., Saturday.
MSU senior defenseman Channing Boe collected a rebound and scored after Kurt Davis had one-timed a shot from the point with the Mavericks on the power play at 17:01 for the only goal of the first period. The goal is Boe’s fourth of the season.
The Tigers knotted the score in the second period when Tim Hall deflected a shot past MSU junior Austin Lee at 14:08.
CC broke the tie at 10:40 of the third period when Tyler Johnson put the puck past Lee after taking a pass from behind the net from Dakota Eveland. Johnson’s goal proved to be the game-winner as the Mavericks were not able to put the game-tying goal past Tiger netminder Josh Thorimbert.
The Tigers outshot the Mavericks on the night by a 33-30 margin. The Mavericks claimed a 5-1 win Friday in splitting the league road series on the weekend.
The Mavericks are now 13-13-6 overall, 7-13-4 WCHA for the season. MSU is home next Friday and Saturday with Minnesota Duluth visiting Mankato for a pair of league games.
