Box Score MANKATO, Minn. – The Minnesota State Mavericks dropped their third straight Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game Friday night as the visiting Concordia University Golden Bears earned the 83-67 victory at the Taylor Center.
Neither team was able to pull away in the first half as Concordia took its largest lead at the 14:18 mark at 13-6. From this point both teams would play a highly competitive half playing to a tie at 24.
The Golden Bears would go on a 13-7 run taking a 37-31 lead with 1:30 remaining in the half. However, MSU would cut the lead to just four as senior
Laura Weber recorded a last-second rebound put-back as they went into halftime trailing, 39-35.
Concordia went 14-of-29 (48.3 FG%) in the half compared to 15-of-39 (38.5 FG%) by MSU. The Mavericks had two players reach double-digits in the first half including Weber and freshman forward
Jamie Bresnahan who contributed 10 and 11 points, respectively.
The second half belonged to Concordia as it outscored MSU, 44-32. The Golden Bears enjoyed a double-digit lead for the majority of the half until freshman guard
Aubrey Davis converted an and-one opportunity cutting the lead to eight.
The Mavericks comeback would fall short though as Concordia converted on 15-of-19 second-half free throws en route to the 83-67 victory. The Golden Bears finished the night 23-of-29 from the charity stripe.
MSU was led by senior guard
Jennie Noreen who finished with 18 points on 4-of-14 shooting. She also added 8-of-9 from the free throw line.
Also finishing with double-digit points for the Mavericks were Weber with 15 and Bresnahan with 11.
Minnesota State finished the night 32.4 percent from the floor compared to 50.9 percent by the Golden Bears. Concordia also did most of its damage down low finishing with 38 points in the paint.
Concordia’s offense was led by four players who reached double-digits as Anika Whiting led the way with 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting. The win improves the Golden Bears overall record to 6-3 while they remain perfect at 3-0 in NSIC action.
Minnesota State (4-3, 0-3 NSIC) returns to action tomorrow when it hosts St. Cloud State. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m., at the Taylor Center.
