Mavericks Earn NSIC Victory with Win Over Huskies

Box Score MANKATO, Minn. – The Minnesota State Mavericks earned their first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory Saturday afternoon defeating the visiting St. Cloud State Huskies, 60-46 at the Taylor Center.
 
The Mavericks used a 14-point effort from senior forward Laura Weber and freshman guard Aubrey Davis as they ended their three-game losing streak.
 
Minnesota State would lead by as much as 21 with 5:21 remaining in the game as they found their offense in the second half.  The Mavericks would connect on 12-of-25 (43.1 FG%) attempts in the second half as they finished the game 43.1 percent from the field.
 
Freshman forward Jamie Bresnahan recorded a season-high 12 rebounds as she started her second game of the season in place of injured junior Ali Wilkinson.
 
MSU was led in the first half, which they outscored St. Cloud 29-23, by Weber who scored 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting.
 
Senior guard Jennie Noreen scored six first-half points connecting on back-to-back three pointers as the Mavericks jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead.  Minnesota State would see its largest lead in the first half when it was up 20-7 at the 12:08 mark.  However, the Huskies outscored the Mavericks, 16-9 as they went into the half trailing by six.
 
Both teams struggled from the field in the first half as MSU connected on 13-of-33 (39.4 FG%) shot attempts compared to just 9-of-35 (25.7 FG%) from St. Cloud.
 
The Mavericks committed 15 turnovers compared to 17 by St. Cloud while both teams finished the night with three steals.
 
The loss drops the Huskies to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in the NSIC.
 
Minnesota State (5-3, 1-3 NSIC) returns to action Friday, Dec. 16 when it faces Upper Iowa University.  The game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m., at the Taylor Center.
