Box Score MANKATO, Minn. – No. 20 Minnesota State took care of business in three sets Saturday afternoon as it defeated the University of Mary in its final home match of the regular season.
 
The Mavericks carried over their momentum from the previous night’s win as they jumped out to a 20-12 lead in the first set.  MSU would go on to win the first set 25-18 behind 19 assists by senior setter Brittany Stamer.
 
MSU remained in control for the second set as it only allowed 10 points to the Marauders.  The Mavericks sprung out to an 18-9 lead before the team was able to rattle off five straight points during Stamer’s serve.  Minnesota State would go on to win the set, 25-10.
 
The third set was the closest of the night as both teams battled back-and-forth to a tie at 20.  The Mavericks proved to be too strong, however, as they went on a 5-1 run to seal the 25-21 win and complete the sweep.
 
MSU was led by junior outside hitter Chelsea Fogarty who recorded 20 kills on 38 attempts (.447) and junior middle blocker Jill Storlie who added 15 kills on 24 attempts (.500).  Freshman outside hitter Tiana Runck added seven kills for the second consecutive night for the Mavericks posting a .312 attack percentage.
 
In their final home regular season game for the Mavericks, Stamer contributed 45 assists and five digs while senior Alli Rice added six kills and 17 digs.
 
The Mavericks finished with more kills (55-25), assists (53-23) and digs (50-38) in the victory.  The loss drops U-Mary’s overall record to 2-26 while they fall to 1-17 in NSIC action.
 
MSU (18-8, 11-7 NSIC) hits the road for its next action as it travels to Bemidji, Minn., Friday Nov. 11 for a matchup with Bemidji State.
