Altmann set her new career-high in saves with 49 during the loss

Mavericks Fall to Gophers 3-0

Box Score Minneapolis, Minn.— After coming off a win last weekend, Minnesota State dropped game one of the two-game series to the University of Minnesota 3-0 at Ridder Arena. The Gophers pounded 52 shots on the Mavericks as MSU goaltender Alli Altmann hit a new career-high in saves with 49.
 
The Gophers came on strong in the first period, blasting 23 shots on MSU’s Altmann. The Minnesota State goalie turned down 19 Minnesota shots before she mishandled a Minnesota shot by Sarah Davis from center ice to put Minnesota up 1-0. Gophers Emily West and Rachel Ramsey were credited with the assists. The Mavericks finished one goal down and fired ten shots in the period.
 
Minnesota’s Davis struck again early in the second on a scrum in front of the net at 1:59.West earned her second assist of the game on the goal as Kelly Seeler added a helper also.
 
Minnesota State’s Altmann faced 17 more shots in the second period as the Gophers added their final goal of the game with 20 seconds remaining in the period. Minnesota’s Megan Bozek scored on a slap shot from the point.
 
The Mavericks picked up the intensity and created opportunities in the third period, even though they were out shot 11-8.
 
Minnesota outshot Minnesota State 52-20 in the game. MSU’s Kathleen Rogan tallied four shots in the game.
 
Minnesota State (4-3-0, 0-1-0 WCHA) faces Minnesota (6-1-0, 4-1-0 WCHA) in the final game of the series at Ridder Arena Friday at 6:07 p.m.
