Box Score Biscmarck, N.D. --- University of Mary senior guard Anthony Moody scored a game-high 31 points – 24 of which came in the first half – to lead the Mauraders to an 84-69 victory over Minnesota State Saturday evening in Bismarck.
The loss drops the Mavericks record to 13-2 overall, 9-2 in the NSIC. Minnesota State still sits alone in first-place in the league however as MSU Moorhead downed Winona State, 95-87, allowing the Mavericks to keep their one-game cushion.
"We had zero energy on both ends of the floor," said Maverick head coach
Matt Margenthaler. "It's unfortunate because you got to come ready to play each and every night. This is a disheartening loss for us and we better learn from this."
Both teams traded baskets to start the game before U-Mary used a 15-4 run to open a 26-14 run and never look back. The run was keyed by four Marauder three-pointers. U-Mary kept the pressure on as it opened a 46-30 halftime edge.
The Marauders maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half. U-Mary finished the night hitting on a scorching 56 percent of their three-point attempts and 53.3 percent of their field goal opportunities.
The Mavericks – who shot just 38.5 percent in the first half – hit on 53.8 percent of their opportunities in the second half to finish the night shooting 46.2 percent from the floor.
Seniors
Marcus Hill,
Jefferson Mason and
Cameron Hodges all scored 13 to pace the Mavericks. Mason added 10 rebounds – all defensive – en route to recording his third double-double of the season.
The Mavericks return to action Friday as they host Bemidji State at 8 p.m.
