Box Score SIOUX FALLS, S.D. --- Twelfth-ranked Augustana College used a pair of runs in the bottom of the first and an insurance run in the sixth to earn a 3-0 victory over #24 Minnesota State Friday afternoon in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tournament.
The loss, pushed MSU’s record to 34-12 on the season and sent the Mavericks into an elimination game with Minnesota Duluth at 6:45 p.m.
The Mavericks opened the game with a first-pitch double off the bat of senior second baseman Abby Morris. Morris then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt off the bat of senior shortstop Libbie Reichling before being stranded to end the inning. Morris represented the only Maverick to reach third in the game.
Augustana used a leadoff home run and a sacrifice fly to plate two runs in the second before adding another in the sixth on a wild pitch.
Freshman designated player Abby Sonner was the only Maverick to have a multi-hit game as she picked up two hits in three trips to the plate.
Redshirt freshman pitcher Courtney McKelvogue suffered the loss for Minnesota State as she yielded three runs – two of which were earned – on seven hits.
