Mesa, Ariz. --- After three rounds at the 2010 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championship, the Minnesota State women’s golf team remains in 11th place.
The 72-hole championship tournament is taking place at the Longbow Golf Course in Mesa, Ariz.
The Mavericks combined to shoot a 327 Friday in third-round action and after carding rounds of 325 and 323 the previous two days, has totaled 975 strokes after 54 holes. Nova Southeastern (Fla.), the defending national champions, have combined to shoot a 583 over the course of the tournament’s three rounds and is in first place in the team standings.
MSU’s top individual, senior Kassie Ellsworth (Hayward, Wis.), posted a round of 83 on the 6,159-yard lay-out at Longbow today and is now +24 for the tournament. Ellsworth, who has totaled 237 strokes in three rounds, is tied for 36th in the tournament individual standings. Sophomore Lisa Moline (Duluth, Minn.), who had MSU’s best round today with a 78, is 51st with a three-round total of 244. Sophomore Samantha Bergmann (New Ulm, Minn.) posted an 84 today and is 54th with a three-round total of 248. Junior Kathleen Ritter (Red Wing, Minn.) recorded a 86 today and is 61st with a 54-hole total of 255. Senior Jaymie Halvorson (Red Wing, Minn.) is tied for 62nd with a three-round total of 258.
Newberry’s Maria Luiz Berio has shot rounds of 71, 68 and 69 to stand atop the individual leaderboard and is five-under with a 54-hole total of 208.
The fourth and final round of the four-day tournament is scheduled to get underway Saturday morning.
MSU is making its ninth appearance in the NCAA championship tournament. MSU’s best-ever finish at the national tourney came in 2000 when the Mavericks finished fifth in the final team standings.
