Mesa, Ariz. --- The Minnesota State women’s golf team combined to shoot a 323 in second-round action and is in 11th place after 36 holes at the 2010 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championship which is being held May 12-15 in Mesa, Ariz.
MSU’s top individual, senior
Kassie Ellsworth (Hayward, Wis.), fired an eight-over 79 on the 6,159-yard lay-out at the Longbow Golf Club today and is now +12 for the tournament. Ellsworth, who carded a 75 Wednesday, is tied for 14th in the tournament individual standings. Sophomore
Samantha Bergmann (New Ulm, Minn.) posted an 83 today and is tied for 51st with a two-round total of 164. Sophomore
Lisa Moline (Duluth, Minn.) has shot 166 for two rounds is 55th. Junior
Kathleen Ritter (Red Wing, Minn.) recorded a 79 in matching Ellsworth today and is tied for 60th with a 36-hole total of 169. Senior
Jaymie Halvorson (Red Wing, Minn.) is tied for 65th with a two-round total of 176.
The Mavericks were two strokes better as a team today then they were in opening-round action yesterday and with rounds of 325 and 323, have combined for a total of 648 and is +80 for two rounds as a team. The defending national champions from Nova Southeastern (Fla.) have combined to shoot a 583 over the course of the last two days in ranking first in the team standings. Newberry’s
Maria Luiz Berio has shot rounds of 71 and 68 to stand atop the individual leaderboard and is three-under with a 36-hole total of 139.
Round three of the four-day tournament is scheduled to get underway Friday morning.
MSU is making its ninth appearance in the NCAA championship tournament. MSU’s best-ever finish at the national tourney came in 2000 when the Mavericks finished fifth in the final team standings.
