Minnesota State Set to Battle Bulldogs in Mankato

MANKATO, Minn.­ — The Minnesota State baseball team (26-8 overall, 15-3 NSIC), having won seventeen of its last twenty games, will play host to Minnesota Duluth for a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader with the Bulldogs Wednesday afternoon. Game one is slated to start at 1:00 p.m.

Last Action: The Mavericks swept the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs in a home-and-home series last week. Minnesota State downed SMSU at home 11-1 and 8-2, then traveled to Marshall, Minn. for a two game tilt and left with 15-3 and 8-1 victories.

About Minnesota Duluth: The Bulldogs are currently 19-15 overall and 7-7 in the NSIC. This past weekend, they went 4-0 at Northern State. UMD defeated the Wolves by scores of 10-7, 13-0, 12-6 and 10-5. The Bulldogs are led by senior outfielder Will Dahlgren who owns a .394 batting average, with five doubles, two triples, one homer and 36 RBI on the season. The University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs are coached by Bob Rients.

Team and Player Notes:

- The Mavericks have scored the majority of their runs in the third (44) and the fifth (40) innings this season, while also having given up the most runs in the third (20) and fifth (19).
- MSU has outscored their opponents 262-117 on the season and out hit their opponents 355-225.
- Senior third baseman Kosuke Hattori, a native of Kanagawa, Japan, is currently in the midst of a team-best 12-game hitting streak. The switch hitter owns a .344 batting average, with six doubles, three triples, one home run and 26 RBI on the year. Hattori tallied six stolen bases last week, 25 on the season, putting him atop the all-time list for stolen bases with 86, passing Gene Glynn who finishes his MSU career with 81. He also played in game 191 as a Maverick, which passes Eric Lonnquist who played in 190 games with MSU. Hattori also sits second in career walks with 98, only one behind first, second in career runs (152), second in career at bats (588), third in career hits (200) and tied for third in career triples (9).
- Senior right-handed pitcher Patrick Lenton, a native of Maple Grove, Minn., continues to lead the Mavericks with a 6-2 record, a team-low 2.66 earned run average and 63 strikeouts in a team-high 61 innings pitched. Lenton's 20 career wins ranks seventh all-time at MSU and his 205 career strikeouts ties for fifth all-time.
- Freshman outfielder Kyle Svoboda, a native of Ankeny, Iowa, currently owns a seven-game hitting steak in limited action this season.
- Junior shortstop Zach Rowles, a native of Sun Prairie, Wis., owns a team-highs in multiple categories including: a .406 batting average, 133 at bats, 48 runs, 54 hits and 14 doubles.

On Deck: The Mavericks will play host to Concordia-St. Paul April 21 for a doubleheader slated to start at 1:00 p.m., then Wayne State for a four-game tilt April 24 and 25 starting at 12:00 p.m. both days. All contests will take place at MSU Baseball Complex.
