Box Score 2 ROSEMOUNT, MINN. --- The Minnesota State softball team split a pair of decisions to Concordia University this morning in the Irish Sports Dome in Rosemount. First pitch for the doubleheader was scheduled for 7:30 a.m.
In the opener, Concordia’s Stephanie Schmikla pitched a seven-inning no-hitter as she allowed just two walks and struck out five batters en route to the 5-0 victory.
Minnesota State redshirt freshman pitcher Courtney McKelvogue took the loss, as she allowed eight hits and five runs – all earned – while striking out eight.
In the nightcap, the Mavericks used a pair of first inning homeruns from senior second baseman Abby Morris and sophomore leftfielder Chelsea Erickson to stake a 5-0 lead after one inning and cruise to an 8-3 decision.
Junior first baseman Julie O'Neal paced MSU at the plate with two hits in two trips to go with a pair of RBI. Morris was 1-for-2 with a run scored. Sophomore Kendra Huettl earned the victory, working six innings and scattering three hits while striking out six.
Minnesota State (2-1) travels to Kissimmee, Fla., March 6th, when it plays Shippensburg at 9 a.m., and Georgian Court at 11 a.m. All times are Eastern Standard.
