Mankato, Minn. --- Senior forward Kael Mouillierat scored twice and assisted on another goal in leading Minnesota State to a 5-2 win over Alaska Anchorage Friday in Mankato.
The Seawolves struck first on their first foray into the MSU zone when Nick Haddad snapped a shot past sophomore Phil Cook 49 seconds into the opening frame.
Freshman forward Eriah Hayes stole the puck and went in to beat UAA’s Jon Olthuis with a shot along the ice at 4:21 of the second period for his seventh goal of the year. Then, with the Mavericks shorthanded, senior forward Kael Mouillierat took advantage of a Seawolf turnover in the neutral zone to go in and score on a nice deke at 14:48 in making it 2-1 MSU. Junior Rylan Galiardi’s tip off of a shot from the point by junior defenseman Kurt Davis at 19:08 gave the Mavericks a two-goal lead after two periods of play.
Mouillierat got this second goal of the game and his 11th of the season at 13:36 of the third period when he bounced a shot in off of a shot by Channing Boe. He then assisted on a shorthanded goal by senior forward Zach Harrison at 11:34 to give the Mavericks a 5-1 edge the goal, the seventh of the year by Harrison, is also his seventh career shorthanded goal, which establishes a MSU school record. Alex Gellert responded for UAA at 14:11 to close out the scoring.
UAA owned a 29-25 advantage in shots on goal in the game.
With the win the Mavericks up their record to 13-16-2 overall, 7-15-1 WCHA. UAA falls to 10-17-2 overall, 8-15-2 WCHA with the loss.
The two teams are scheduled to face-off at Verizon Wireless Saturday at 7:07 p.m.
