2/16/2010 4:56:43 PM

Mankato, Minn. ---  Minnesota State Football Coach Todd Hoffner will travel to Frankfurt, Germany this week to speak at the German American Football Coaches Convention.

Hoffner will speak Sunday through Wednesday, Feb. 24 and will be teaching coaches who are going for their A-License which is the highest license in the educational system of the German American Football Federation.

The American Football Verband Deutschland (German American Football Federation) is hosting the event.  The federation was established in 1982 after football started in the country in 1977.

"I am excited to present at the German American Football Coaches Convention in Germany," said Hoffner.  "It is an honor and a privilege to present on behalf of the 'Maverick Nation' to the German coaches."

"The opportunity to return to Europe is special one and I am happy to share the game of football to an international audience. I coached in Sweden for three summers while at UW-Stevens Point and also guided two teams from UW-Eau Claire to Stockholm, Sweden and Helsinki, Finland in 2002 and a team in 2005 that also competed in Rothenberg, Germany, Vienna, Austria and Prague, Czech Republic. These experiences will help me in guiding the Europeans in their quest to learn more about the game of Football."

The Mavericks finished the 2009 season with a 10-2 record and were named the NSIC South Division Champions.  Minnesota State advanced to the post season for the second straight year and the fifth time in school history.
